It is my experience that gourds are slower to germinate than winter squash.

Is it more difficult to direct seed gourds? We sowed a patch of hubbard
squash and bushel gourds 5 days ago. The hubbard squash started to emerge
today, right on schedule, but there's no signs of the gourds yet... and that
got me to remembering that a couple of times before, when I tried direct
seeding small patches of edible gourds (cucuzzis), I couldn't get any to
germinate. (Didn't have any problems with getting them to germinate in the
greenhouse though...)
