Do you think soaking the seeds for a couple of days would help. I soak things like okra to get them going quicker.

Just a thought.

Ken; I've found that gourds, and bushel gourds particularly, can take a
LONG time to germinate. Some of mine took weeks; I think they may need
warmer temps than most other seeds. Mine were in cell packs in the
greenhouse, which was not particularly warm, but none of my other seeds
had problems. I'd given up on them. Other plants, including several
batches of winter squash, germinated and got potted up, but the gourds
just
sat there. I kept watering them along with all the other cellpacks, and
kept starting more and more gourds, hoping some would germinate. Lo and
behold, they finally started coming up. Now I've got way more than I need
(you can never have too many gourds, right?)

Is it more difficult to direct seed gourds? We sowed a patch of hubbard
squash and bushel gourds 5 days ago. The hubbard squash started to
emerge
today, right on schedule, but there's no signs of the gourds yet... and
that
got me to remembering that a couple of times before, when I tried direct
seeding small patches of edible gourds (cucuzzis), I couldn't get any to
germinate. (Didn't have any problems with getting them to germinate in
the
greenhouse though...)
