For me, hot weather crop dry seeds in hot weather just jump out of the
ground: okra, squash, southern peas, cantaloupe, watermelon. All come
up in three to seven days. That is, dry seed planted in 80+ deg
weather and topped with drip tube. I haven't done gourds, but would
expect them to be like other cucubrits.

I didn't read the original post, but perhaps it was old seed? Or seed
planted in cold soil?
