I purchased it for the purpose of planting zucchini and squash and it broke a lot of those seeds. I did not try using it to plant other, rounder, type seeds. So, perhaps it's better suited to those kinds of seeds. I guess I didn't give it a fair chance. :) Maybe I'll dig it out of my shed and give it another shot with grean beans.

I had just the opposite experience with the "Stick" planter. In trying
out a minimum till thing last season, I used the "Stick" to plant fair
amounts of both okra and sweet corn. It did well singulating and
planting both. The spring shutter did prove somewhat troublesome,
though.
I wonder what seeds it breaks? Beans?
