Are you figuring from the generator to the end user? When I worked for the
Wisconsin Energy Initiative - 2 program a few years ago, the engineers used
a rule of thumb of 50% loss. I have recently read of losses in the local
distribution of 20 - 25% but that does not count the main transmission
lines. However, those lines have the lowest loss due to the high voltage/low
current on some very thick wires.
