Studies of water based 'thermal flywheels' were conducted at John Todd's "New Alchemy Institute" in the early 80's. They raised fish in tall clear water tanks, heating the water in the day time and using the water to keep the night tempertures higher than they w.b. otherwise. (The also composted on the north side of the greenhouse)

Their research is published on the web. Sorry, I don't have the URL, but it came up for me the other day. Just search on NEW ALCHEMY INSTITUTE

I understand that Eliot Coleman has started recommending anti-freeze heat in his 4 season greenhouses. Anyone know anything about this?

Regards to the list:

Today, it is 16 degrees and sunny here in north central Missouri. Our
new hoop house is all toasty warm. I wonder if I filled milk jugs with
water and stacked them up somewhere in the hoop house, would they warm
enough during the day to keep the house warm at night? Does anyone have
any data on something like this?
