I just bought a John Deere 460 compact for my flower farm. I used the
hydrostatic transmission and liked the way you can go very slow and use
cruise control to maintain set speed. The reason I did not buy hydro on the
JD is that for plowing and other hard applications, a hydrostatic doesn't
give you direct gear to gear contact and can heat up under heavy continuous
loads. I like Kubota and would have bought one, but not with the hydro.
Some people swear by them and this is just my own opinion. I got a Power
Reverser with creeper gear. You can change gears w/o clutch, forward to
reverse, as well. Very easy. Definitely drive one before you buy.
