ÿþ<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <HTML><HEAD> <META content="text/html; charset=unicode" http-equiv=Content-Type> <META content="MSHTML 5.00.2614.3500" name=GENERATOR> <STYLE></STYLE> </HEAD> <BODY bgColor=#ffffff> <DIV><FONT face="Times New Roman" size=2>Someone asked about speaking for $.&nbsp; I do a little of that.&nbsp;&nbsp;I got started, in general, by doing it for free.&nbsp; That is, I offered to give a talk to a school group or club.&nbsp; I did a number of these as a Master Gardener and did the talks to fulfill my volunteer requirement.&nbsp; Then I offered to give talks or demonstrations for a fee ($25/hr).</FONT></DIV> <DIV>&nbsp;</DIV> <DIV><FONT face="Times New Roman" size=2>The problem with this is that - at least in gardening and growing - you are competing with professionals who charge significantly more because they have a degree and a position that gives them credibility.&nbsp; In fact, our Master Gardener club hired someone to give a daylong talk on landscaping for $30/hour including travelling time.&nbsp; That was very reasonable.</FONT></DIV> <DIV>&nbsp;</DIV> <DIV><FONT face="Times New Roman" size=2>On topics for which I do have professional expertise I charge $200./hour regardless of the size of the audience OR they charge admission and I get a percentage of the door.&nbsp; After awhile - if you got really successful - I suppose you would need an agent.&nbsp; It's great work when you can get it but it takes a lot of client contact and continual work to keep this kind of thing going.</FONT></DIV> <DIV>&nbsp;</DIV> <DIV><FONT face="Times New Roman" size=2>For what it is worth, just about anyone can do public speaking.&nbsp; It takes more common sense than special stage talent.</FONT></DIV> <DIV>&nbsp;</DIV> <DIV><FONT face="Times New Roman" size=2>Del Williams</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face="Times New Roman" size=2>Farmer in the Del</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face="Times New Roman" size=2>Clifton IL</FONT></DIV> <DIV>&nbsp;</DIV></BODY></HTML>
