I just wanna clarify one thing here.

You said: "Ibiblio has dozens of servers, each with their own purpose.the lyceum demo site is running on its own dedicated powerful server. in a shared hosting environment like dreamhost, you will be sharing a server with hundredsof of other users, all on the same box."

By what you said, Dreamhost runs pretty much like Iblio. Several servers, each with their own purpose. Of course you will be sharing it if you have a shared hosting plan, but you also can have your dedicated server with them.

I'll give you my personal experience with them. I have several websites with the same account (a shared hosting plan). Not all of them are in the same server machine and some subdomains are not in the same server as their root domain. On top of that, the mysql servers are used exclusively to host databases.

I love the way they do this, mostly because if something goes wrong with one of their machines I don't have my whole website down. Parts of it will still be working, 'cause they're not hosted in the same server. Dreamhost allocates to their clients the space they bought on the hosting plan they chose, but it doesn't mean it will be on the same server.

Anyway, John, I saw the ticket http://source.ibiblio.org/trac/lyceum/ticket/436  on the other day.
I wanna know if is there anybody working on it yet. The reason I'm asking it is that I was working on a CSS file for the admin interface, and it is working alright in my instalation (although now I wanna change the colors I was using to match the new Lyceum logo).
Let me know if you are interested in see any of that.

jameson was merely mapping out the problem space by naming the differences
between his local dev install, and the demo site install. there are a few
other variables as well, such as that the demo site has run many versions
of the software over the months since lyceum's launch, some of which were
not point releases.

Lyceum has not been stress tested yet. we've been focusing on features and
security. At some point we would love to run some simulations under a
debugger and see how we can optimize the system.

you aren't being a pain at all, this type of discussion is what makes open
source software great.

John
