Here's an excellent video from the UK that outlines the issues around
Peak Oil and gives examples of farms in the UK that are using
permaculture techniques to produce food without the reliance on fossil
fuels.

Any comments would be much appreciated.

"Peak Oil" is a hoax. Invented for the profit of Standard Oil and the "Seven Sisters" it was broken up into.
Mankind has only tapped (not 'used' but 'tapped') maybe fifteen percent of the available oil on the planet.
We are nearly swimming in oil and gas. There is no lack of oil.
Over near Thailand there is a 'gas flare' out in the South China Sea that burns 24/7. The flame must be at least 800 feet tall and 100 feet across, you can see it clearly for at least sixty miles. They burn it because it would cost too much to capture it and ship it and sell it. If we really needed that fuel, do you think they would just burn it to get rid of it? Calculate the height by line-of-sight and the curvature of the Earth.
Oil did not come from dead dinosaurs or dead primeval forests.
Oil is formed from overheated rock at very high pressure, the planet makes it, and there will always be some. Look it up.
Nobody seems to care about the oil seeps on Kodiak Island or the oil fields yet to be discovered in that area.
Not to mention the deep oil fields west and south of Hawaii. Not to mention the domestic un-tapped fields off both coasts and the east half of the Gulf of Mexico and the right good-sized field under the northern Rockies and the others here and there.
And China, Indonesia, Philippines, and Thailand are going to have a fight, sooner or later, over the oil fields near the Spratley Islands in the South China Sea.

Likewise . . .

Global warming may be occurring - it has before, and it will again - but mankind's efforts are meaningless either way. Unless we have a really good nuclear war, with thousands of bombs used, mankind will strive mightily but have no discernible effect on planetary climate. One volcano emits fifty or a hundred times as much carbon dioxide as all mankind. Carbon Dioxide is less than 1/100th as effective as a greenhouse gas than water vapor, and mankind is responsible for what, maybe 5% of the carbon dioxide. And people think that mankind can have a measurable effect on Earth's climate by emitting more carbon dioxide?
It's a hoax. We are being ripped off - again.
Hey, how about let's cover the oceans with plastic to keep the water vapor from being such an important greenhouse gas.
We really do not yet comprehend how big Earth really is, and how insignificant all our works really are. Go thru Google Earth and look for signs of where people live - you can't even tell if people live down there from more than about 20 miles up. That's one four hundredth (1/400) of the Earth's diameter (about 8000 miles), about equal to the thickness of a piece of cardboard from a cereal box as related to a basketball. So we humans are proportionally about the same as bacteria living on a basketball. Yet we think that we can affect the whole basketball. Hooey!
If we had good sense we would realize that a couple degrees warmer would be a GOOD THING and we could have vineyards on the shores of Greenland again and bumper crops elsewhere with two or maybe even three crops per year like we did when Eric the Red was sailing around the North Atlantic and planting villages in Vineland (Nova Scotia) where they raised grapes (thus the "Vineland").
.
Of course if you have a profit-making interest in either of those you will disagree (Al Gore). If you don't, then do your research or just agree.
Best regards
John
