If viewing this in the simplest of forms, i.e. end-use only, then the proper
measure is people miles per gallon.

A Hummer can haul more people, but seldom do I see one that is full and is
therefore on top in the PMPG measure. On the other hand, I typically see
Priuses (which have been overrated) with more than one person in them.

As we perform more physical work it will become very apparent what efficiency
means. I think about Ruth Stout (sp?) who shunned double-digging at a time
that it was the rave- she felt that it was excess/unnecessary work, work
that, for her, being an aged woman, wasn't a wise use of her energy.

A thought provoking comment, which is more effective and/or which is more
effcient: a Toyota Prius or a Hummer? Think about it.
