I think we all, as individuals, can do something small to help alleviate the accelerated global warming situation. So the Atlantic Ocean has lost some of it's ability to act as a carbon sink--make ways for carbon to be absorbed on your own property. Water shortages? practice methods that conserve water. (water vapor is considered a 'greenhouse gas') Don't let anybare soil show through on your property if there is a way to avoid it-- cover it with SOMETHING that is growing- not concrete or asphalt. Insist to your lawmakers that people do not need to build McMansions- that a 800 SF home is plenty of room for a single person, or even a couple( with children!)
I learned in one science class, that global warming is the predecessor to a huge 'ice age'-- as the planet 'dies' it will start to cool, even to the point of massive glaciers world wide. Then, volcanic activity will spew out the gasses needed to help 'warm up' the Earth, melting the ice and snow, and life 'returns' to the newly exposed lands. Of course, it is the change in weather patterns that helps move all this process--as the temperate regions warm, the overall air flow reverses, taking warm air to the poles, and bringing cooler air to the equatorial regions.
But to shrug your shoulders and say "nothing we can do about it" is fatalistic- take the small things, and it will add up--

I have a difficult time being too upset about global warming. First if it is warming we can't do anything meaningful about it, the climate has changed for billions of years. Second warming opens up more land for farming and living. One bad thing is the millions living near the beach will have to move. I don't like the beach so I won't have to move. Global freezing is a much bigger problem, no comparison. It will squeeze the population towards the equator and also the farmable land. I am for organic methods, no chemicals. Improving the soils, clean air and water.Johnny
