The Community Gardening movement has also progressed,
Community gardens have prospered in waves in the U.S. Believe it or not, they were government-sponsored during both WW1 and Ww2 and produced an enormous amount of food -- all on "vacant lots" and donated land. Many of the gardens declined after the war effort, probably a combination of the landowners wanting the land back and the gardeners reprioritizing their time and effort.
But many community gardens are still around, and every one has dedicated gardeners who know how to produce lots of food from tiny plots of land.
Not everyone is part of BushCo's ownership society:)
