So, in order to get the WMC, I need a new computer? "Windows XP Media
Center Edition 2005 is only available pre-installed on computers sold by PC
manufacturers...."

I already have 5 computers at home! Why don't they sell the OS in a box?

Could I, or could I not, get a video cable, and connect it from my TV to
the video capture card on the PC, and record the video that way?

I recently switched from a Tivo (series 1) to a Windows Media Center. I
was thinking about getting a new Tivo but the WMC beat out the Tivo in most
categories. I suggest getting a WMC.

I'm pretty sure the TWC dvr is a black box that can't be futzed with.
If you want to be able to pull stuff off your DVR to play somewhere
else, a series 2 tivo is the way to go.
