You could do that if your PC also has a decent video (out) card with S-Video
or component video out. You'll also want a decent amount of memory and
fairly new processor. I tried running on an older box with a 1GHz Duron but
it just didn't perform well in my opinion. I have to warn you that my
'build a DVR out of an old PC' project ended up with me buying all new
equipment with the exception of the DVD drive. I found the PC noise to be a
real issue and had to buy more expensive fans and power supply.
