Electric stoves don't have a problem blowing up...

yep, gas has gone up, and may well go higher.

some quick thermal figuring (math probably faulty, many assumptions, YMMV):

rates:
1 therm NG ~= $1.18 (PSNC) plus facility charge, but if you're hooked up then that's a sunk cost anyway. we're talkin' marginal costs here.

1 kW electricity ~= $0.080 (Progress - seasonal 0.0744 to 0.0844)

conversion factors:
1 kilowatt hour of electricity = 3,413 BTU
100,000 BTU = 1 Therm

so:
1 Therm NG = 29.3 kwH

Which will cost you:
$1.18 as gas
$2.33 as electric

Never underestimate the inefficiency and expense of pushing ergs through the electric grid.

Plus cooking with gas is immeasurably superior. You can sear stuff right over the flame. You have control. If you buy the right stove, it works when the lights go out. It looks neat. Hell, it's "fire in the kitchen".
