Personally, I love the numeric keypad. I just wish I didn't have to use the dang mouse at all. Which is why I spend the majority of my coding life in vi. I find that touch-typists and anyone with any history of data entry agree with me. Learn to type!

I took a touch typing class on a typewriter before desktop computers existed, and we learned to use those little numbers you see on the top row of your keyboard :-) Why waste 1/3 of the size of the keyboard duplicating keys that already exist? The numeric keyboards are:

1. For people who do data entry, which programming is not.
2. Are easily obtained as an external extra.

Actually I'm a huge vi fan, which is why when I do use the mouse I don't want to have to reach a entire foot to grab it! The only problem with vi is it doesn't handle refactoring :-(
