I don't know that this makes them "natives" but the Wrights did get to NC more than once. What they did first was learn to fly in a glider version of the 1903 machine. (fly it, crash it, fix it better, fly it again, until they got it right). They couldn't have done this in Dayton. But Dayton, home of NCR (The "Cash" I think it was referred to), did have industry, the machine shops, and information. But KH was an ideal skunk works (did Shea say this? yes). Perfect for the proof-of-concept 1903 machine.
And it is true that it's Kitty Hawk that's remembered, not Dayton. Maybe/probably because of the famous photograph. Yes, the power of the media, and an image here!

No argument there. I only have two points:

1. Everything but the 1st successful sustained flight took place in
Dayton.
2. Having the 1st flight take place in NC doesn't say much about NC
other than the outer banks have some good wind and friend people.

Werner von Braün studied and did early tests of recket science (yes,
this is rocket science!) at Germany. Nevertheless, his first bird to
reach The Space and The Moon, took place in the Good Ole US of A.

Isaac Asimoc was born in Russia. Nevertheless, he is regarded as a
great
American Science-fiction writer.

Those individuals later moved and actually lived in the US. The Wright
brothers spent only about 3 months actually in NC.
