It's so good to see people worked up about a topic like this.

Michael, I think your point is technically accurate but none-the-less moot.
As they say in real estate, it's location, location, location. Location of
the event is the critical factor.

No argument there. I only have two points:

1. Everything but the 1st successful sustained flight took place in
Dayton.
2. Having the 1st flight take place in NC doesn't say much about NC
other than the outer banks have some good wind and friend people.

Those individuals later moved and actually lived in the US. The Wright
brothers spent only about 3 months actually in NC.
