Dude, I have met you and you're not that ugly.

As another former carpenter and furniture maker, I understand the
freedom that having a real skill allows. I do crafts work to stay sane.
There is a lot to be said for creating actual stuff you can look at
rather than just virtual stuff.

I spent last weekend teaching eight enthusiastic novice woodturners how
to turn hollow forms on the lathe from firewood and roadkill at the
Crafts Center at NCSU. There is nothing like watching someone absorb
what you teach them, take it in, and then see them realize that they
"got it".
Eight guys left the workshop with pieces they had made and realized
that they could go home and make something that they hadn't thought
about until the class. I am stoked (plus I was hoarse from talking and
completely exhausted.) I'm almost recovered, but I am really anxious to
get back to the lathe soon.
