Applies to beer and wine too. It's a state law issue, thanks to (if
memory serves) two teenagers getting a parent's credit card and ordering
a case of beer to the house. Can't ship to any address inside North
Carolina that's not a business that has a license for the alcohol in
question. A friend shipped me a bottle of 25year Royal Lochnagar single
malt from California via FedEx (they didn't know the law, and didn't
ask me first) and it was confiscated at the border.

My reaction to Laphroig was "someone dropped some peat into the barrel on
this batch".
