How often have you heard the word "chad" mentioned in public discourse? The
fate
of this country will be determined by state of the chad. As a Canadian (where
we
still mark the ballots with X's), I find this utterly fascinating.
"They decided, one by one, whether a ballot was a valid vote based on whether
they could see a "hanging chad," which is a hole punched partly through a
ballot, or a "pregnant chad," which is only an indentation created when the
voter failed to pierce the ballot.
A "hanging" chad is a legal vote. A "pregnant" chad is not."
