It wouldn't alter anything because it is a matter of power not speed. As
Don pointed out, you'd need speed (RPM's) just to make an automotive
alternator work. But in the end it is power (work) that can be converted
into
another form of energy.

Gearing up a stationary bike hooked to a generator would be like going up
a steep hill on a regular bike and when the going was so slow, you shift
into high gear. What happens?
