Jobs come with specific requirements and liability for the company. If you are collecting unemployment, it is something you already *earned,* not something they need to earn.

Just a side note, welfare is not available to convicted drug addicts. That is one of the reforms that Bushy Jr. put in. They can get a portion of the welfare for the children they may have, but they can't get a full grant that gives money for the adults. Of course, there isn't any supervision over how it is spent. THAT would be a both party problem.

Food stamps were originally not to cover anything that could be taxed and not to cover anything other than basic meat, potatoes, flour, sugar, milk, veggies. Nothing packaged (mac/cheese, Rice-A-Roni, Hamburger Helper, etc., etc., etc.). There was discussion about working welfare similarly to WIC where "x" dollars would go directly to a landlord, utility company etc. The Repubs complained about more bureacracy and the Dems complained that it was degrading to the recipients.
