Today I went for my pre-employment physical and drug screen. It was a
pain because I had to drive almost to Tennessee to get it done at the
assigned clinic. I have to drive back up there, over 60 miles, to have my PPD(TB test) looked at on Thursday. Why I can't have someone local look at it and call them is beyond me.
Anyway, On the way back, as I hummed down the interstate, I had this thought...
I've had to be tested for drugs at almost every job I've ever held, both
pre-employment and random screening. I think it is a good idea and I
don't mind it. I know a lot of government type jobs also require
testing...law enforcement, transportation employees, etc. etc. So here
is my question....
If it is accepted that you and I must be subjected for drug testing in
order to get our paycheck, why is it not accepted that those who receive government assistance in the form of welfare or unemployment be subjected to the same random screening and terms? I have no clue as to how that would fairly be executed, but things just don't seem right as they are now. Also, on a related matter, physicians involved in fraudulent disability claims should lose their licensure.
