Darn, I could have sworn I saw that the food from the garden was being
donated to the poor people in
DC..................... LOL

As I recall from a recent news article, they discovered the Clintons had
covered that portion of the lawn with sewer sludge, and it was oozing up
in their new garden. They had the soil tested only to discover heavy
metals, and had to abandon eating from it. I know when I lived in Austin
the City pushed 'Dillo Dirt (it's sludge) as a gardening fertilizer, and
the same thing happened. Now they only suggest using it on fruit trees.

Subject: [Homestead] OT Music this time..

I would like to make a CD of music, pop, alternative, and country that
is dedicated to the young men and women serving our country.  I started
making a list of songs that I thought are about service, and then
suddenly my mind went blank.  I'd also like to include any songs with
love and separation as themes(Here without you, for example)
Add to the list, if you can...

I'm Already There, Lonestar
When I Look to the Sky, Train
Here Without You, 3 Doors Down

Bev, missing the kid, who called last night...from  windy dock in Guam
(a super typhoon just went through there)... said he will not be able to
make it home until this time next year.  :(

Earlier today I was reading something along the lines that there were times
when Prez Bush2 was speaking and the opposition on Congress was yelling over
him so that people couldn't hear what he was saying.  I haven't verified but
the author of the article claimed there was no apology type thing going on.

Where was all the media attention when there were picketers who had signs
that said assassination [of Bush] would be the answer to stopping the war in
Iraq?

What's good for the goose is good for the gander and I just don't get the
fear and hysteria when it is just more of the same old same old.  The ONLY
change is the color of the person in the White House.

You can't have an organic garden if chemicals have been used on the land.
The White House lawn is NOT kept pretty and green without the use of
chemicals, both fertilizers and pesticides. Not just sludge. And, they
aren't saying when the use of sludge was discontinued. Add into that the
gypsy moth spraying program. Well, not organic.

DH (landscaper and certified applicator) says that lawn takes a truckload of
chemicals. In the proposal written by Susan Harris and submitted to
Michelle Obama and Ann Bowman Smith, part of the proposal also addresses the
White House lawns "The White House lawn, subjected to much less traffic than
the Mall, is a far better demonstration site for lawns that look good with
an environmentally beneficial and money-saving approach." In other words,
the lawn is now "conventional" and "that means overfertilization and that
extra (usually petroleum-based) fertilizer is a major pollutant of th
Chesapeake Bay. Keeping turfgrass green and perfect-looking all summer also
requires enormous amounts of herbicides and irrigated water.

They never did announce if they were going to go with her ideas on "green"
lawn care and the proposed savings of thousands a year on lawn care.

Bottomline, they can dance around it all they want but that garden is not
organic. And, depending on the chemicals, it won't be for 5-10 years or
longer.
