OK, my first question in response is WHO had expectations of him being able
to turn things around in a year? 
My first guess is it would be the people who voted for him.  I suspect the
people who voted against him thought that he was going to make an already bad
situation far far worse.

That's true, but there seems to be a viciousness in this that I never saw
directed at Bush or Clinton. The misrepresentations and outright lies about
Obama, and the venom with which they are repeated (even after being
disproven) are scary. I have doubts about Obama's policies, but some of his
critics are downright evil...I'd REALLY hate to see them in power. "None of
the above" is looking like a better choice all the time.
