Hi Bev,
Sorry it's taken so long to reply; been a long week (month...year...decade) We've got forty plants currently from the 100 or so seeds planted. None (possibly one or two) of the seeds from the unripe (picked green) berries germinated. We harvested a meal from the stand this spring (grilled in olive oil and splashed with lemon juice) but then let them grow into the nice tall ferns hiding my old truck bed behind the garden.
What did you do with your seeds? They aren't still on your kitchen table are they? :)
As far as collecting seeds for saving I let the berries dry in a paper bag through the winter and crushed them to get the seeds in the spring just before planting. Is it the best way? I don't know but it was easy and productive.
In other news, I just finished the knotty pine in the greenhouse today. All that's left is trim and floor tile. The concrete floor turned out nice with the help of a semi-pro mason friend but it wasn't my best barter deal ever--promising to help him build a similar greenhouse addition onto his garage cost me fifty hours labor compared to his three hours at my job.

Well Keith, I actually went out and collected the seed today. I've got
a couple of Tablespoons of red-orange berries. It rained last night, so
they are moist and not all are unbroken. I have them on a paper plate
on the table, awaiting word from you.
Knowing that we have discussed this at least twice(sorry to be a pest),
I searched my mail folders for asparagus posts and found this one that
you reposted for me last year.
Whatever happened with this experiment?
Did all of the seed germinate?
What do you think was the best, easiest, and most productive way of
acquiring and saving the seed?
Since you did this in 2006, three years ago now, have you harvested any
asparagus from the seeds you sowed?
Bev
