I have to agree with Gene, My grandmother did this with hers when
I was growing up, but they were her chickens raised for many generations
and originated from her parents farm of years before. Not too sure
I would try that today, or at least I would get some tests for Salmonella
run on them once.

regardless of their subsequent living conditions. So unless our hens
are from salmonella-free, farm-grown hens of many generations they may
have the disease within them and in their eggs. If that is so, then it
is prudent to not eat raw eggs from hens that are only a few
generations removed from any of the big hatcheries.
