I am searching for a fig tree variety that will survive outdoors here in NE TN
I do have a southern exposure that is sheltered.
James are you growing any figs?????

Yes, I'm growing a few called Chicago (and some numbers after it, I don't
recall) figs because they are supposed to grow in Chicago. Unlike most figs,
they bear on the same year's new growth from the roots. So although the cold
bits them off at ground level every year, they come out with new growth which,
if things are favorable, bear that first year and then get frozen when winter
comes again.

They are not reliable and at best they are not remarkable, insipid until they
are thoroughly dried. You have to add a lot of spices to the jam or it is
tasteless.

Better than a snowball, though.
