Thanks Bev, that would be great!
I am willing to risk disease, because figs are quite resistant to disease
from what I have read.

Alrighty Jeanne, now I have it straight. Very often I catch myself
misspelling your name-you many have noticed, and I think that is because
I mostly have been calling you Jeannie in my head. Hopefully, I can
make the transition to Jeanne.

I love my figs. My neighbors love my figs. They are so soft and sweet.
I can't imagine them having enough texture to grill (I know some folks
grill figs). These are too soft to slice for grilling. They are most
excellent eaten a split second after they are picked from the tree, but
also good in preserves.
I think these would propagate easily, but they say that you should not
do that because of disease spreading issues. If mine have any disease,
they have become immune to it because nothing slows down production. My
biggest gripe is that the trees get so large I can't protect the figs
from the birds. I put pieces of garden hose in the trees, to simulate
snakes, but that only works for a time. You have to move it around.
Also, I have put CD's in the trees...you know those AOL CD's you used to
get in the mail all the time...hang to scare birds and deer.
Here, the birds peck a hole to test ripeness, then the ants and yellow
jackets cover the tree..very sugary fruit. I have to be very careful
picking figs to make sure I am not going to get stung by bees.
I've heard that figs do well with layering, both on the ground and air
layering. If you have a neighbor with a good tree, that is probably
your best bet. I'll read up and try to layer a branch for you..

Bev
