We try to cut wood in the winter because we both are allergic to
bees/wasps. The last time he cut up a fallen hickory in the summer we
ended up in the ER after he found nest of yellow jackets in the ground

Be careful with DEET. It is a neurotoxin and only one step shy of
chemical weaponry. <vbg> Use sparingly if you use it at all, and try to
use it on your clothes vs on your skin. It goes right through your skin.

That I understand and cutting wood is very therapeutic for me. With
25 acres of woods, I'll never "get it done". I do like the idea of getting the the most brushy spots, cutting logs, cleaning up and getting the logs out of the woods before the ticks are up.

The only thing I've found to counter the chiggers and ticks is 100%
deet.

not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius
will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the
world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone
are omnipotent. The slogan 'press on' has solved and always will solve
the problems of the human race"
