I wanted to add, that when I think of persistence, I think about Scott Nearing digging his own pond with a wheelbarrow and a shovel. He was older than I am now, but undertook the job, knowing that it would take a while to finish. I can't help but think that if I'd started digging a little bit every day when I first decided I wanted a pond (about 7 years ago), I'd probably be done by now (and have a good collection of rocks to put around it).

This appears to be the ideal post upon which to unveil my latest quote
find. Please note applicable tag line for my comment about
homesteading, Lynn, and Bob's wonderment about us 'hard women'<g>. ;)

I don't really have many skills. I have determination and a need to get
stuff fixed. I don't have anyone to do any of it for me, except tractor and
truck repair. I just have to muddle through. I inherited all my father's
woodworking tools (band saw, table saw, table sander, lathe, etc) when he
died. He was a carpenter, but never taught my sister and I how to use the
tools (he didn't think girls were capable of using any tool beyond a mixer
or an oven). I've figured out how to use them and haven't lost any fingers
(yet).

Not all of us are as smart as you, Lynn :-).
