Yikes, and now that I'm almost done restoring programs and data 3 days
later.... I see hundreds of emails... :-)  (The worst is I lost several days
of a client's work and I have to re-do it --- for free... :-(

Couple of ideas:

1)  EMERGENCY LIGHTING - get some solar patio lights.... and bring them
inside when the power goes out.

2)  STARTER KIT FOR SEEDS - got this tip this a/m at the gym.  Cut a few
sheets of newspaper into strips the same width as you would want a starter
cup for seed(lings).  Wet the paper, then roll into the desired width.  Let
dry.  No need to remove at planting time.

Roxanne , I just thought of an idea that might sound crazy, but having a
frozen water trough or pond where the animals can't drink, and you couldn't
break the ice with a shovel.. If you have a wood stove or fireplace, maybe
you could keep a couple of large, smooth rocks or large smmoth stones;
heavy, but not so heavy you couldn't pick up with a pear of pot holder
gloves; then throw them in a little wheelbarrow or wagon, and just dump them
on top of the ice; to let the heat and gravity from the heavy stones break
and melt the ice. If you are laughing at my idea, that's okay ;-)
