When reading articles that define the country by regions no one ever seems to agree where Mo should be placed. South, midwest, northwest, central south, even great plains. These are unnoficial defined by the authors. Might be interesting to see how much that happens with other states?

Missouri is unique in its location, history, and politics:

It is in the Midwest, a bit east of the geographical center of the country and is bordered by eight states, more than any other state;

Before it was a state it was used to effect a national political solution: the Missouri Compromise of 1820;

It has political balance. It finished its official presidential election count, the last state to do so, two weeks after the election, with a difference of 3,632 votes out of over 2.9 million votes cast.

As for southern Missouri being most South-like, this Wisconsin native found himself immediately feeling "at home" when he moved there.

This is from Wikipedia:
It has both Midwestern and Southern cultural influences, reflecting its history as a border state. It is also a transition between the eastern and western United States, as St. Louis is often called the "western-most eastern city" and Kansas City the "eastern-most western city."

And if anyone serves sweet tea in southern Missouri, they have successfully hidden that saccharine fact from me.

I think Texas is South. It is in the western part of the South, but not
Southwest. Are you saying it is Southwest because of the land-the
dryness, the desert?

Most of its land mass is in the southwest quadrant of America.
