Eastern White Pine are generally the only ones subject to pine beetles.

White pines have long, straight, dark blue-green needles, black smooth bark,
and the limbs are whorled and evenly spaced.

The Southern Yellow Pine has rough, light brown bark, light green short
curved needles, and the branches are random.

White and yellow refer to the color of the milled wood.

There are a dozen other pine species here, but they do not grow in numerous
groves like the white pine and yellow pine.
