I meant to add this to that. Some of the local Mexicans came by one day to
buy some roosters (which they turn into the best tamales you've ever had!). I
wasn't at home, they didn't speak English, and Herself's Spanish is a bit
limited. She wanted to ask them if they'd be interested in one of the
surplus
goats and when they were confused as to what among that confused menagerie
she was
talking about, she said "There ... the cabrito! Quieren cabrito?"

When I got home she explained that at that point they became very open and
friendly and seemed to be aplogizing for having to go. But they didn't make
an
offer for the goat, as far as she could tell.

I said, "Not to be surprised, you didn't offer to sell the goat, you invited
them to lunch."
