Mine grew as bushes, not trees. The branches were too thin to be useful for much. Someone told me a while back that they were also called bois d'arc trees, because the Indians taught the French to make bows out of them, they are flexible and lithe.

What I read said that for a hedge fence, you plant them 1 foot apart and
within 4 years, your 'fence' will be "horse high, bull-strong, and
hog-tight" in 4 years

I figured after 15-20 years, I should have some good fenceposts.

Apparently, from just reading between the lines, it is suitable for
coppicing, too. I need to research that to make sure.
