Sliding glass doors are "out" but you may want to look into buying the
insulated glass "refills" for a sliding glass door. When I built this house
I got insulated low-e glass panels approx. 3' x 7' for 40 dollars. They were
stock items for a glass company and I just framed to suit them. Call
whatever company does the storefront glass in your area rather than home
depot or lowes.

Bingo. For my little East Wing multi-use room I recycled sliding glass that is discolored from when the seals failed. Bought those pieces about thirty years ago for ten dollars each. My next project, a master suite, will use new insulated replacement glass units. I find nothing else that beats them for price per square foot. Nothing wrong with looks that framing and muntins can't cure.

As for sliding glass doors being "out," I am hot for large pocket doors that open up a wall, for instance from a living room to a porch. With four such doors an entire wall can disappear. With muntins you can call them French doors and perhaps make wives happy.
