Well, obviously your neighbors haven't taken on the full mantel of veganism! Be glad. Those folks are militant and nuts.

What the militant vegan also conveniently leaves out is that in order to grow
a vegetarian diet it is necessary to kill or thwart all manner of animal
life.

True. I have a local family homesteading that I've connected with
somewhat, we've done some trades. They are of a religion that promotes
health, so have decided to take on a vegan diet. They also object to
the "mistreatment" of animals raised for food.

This guy is running all over the place looking for manure for his
gardens. Blowing a lot of gas, time and effort to get what he could
make at home. Of course, it's anyone choice what they choose to eat
and these people are not critical of me for raising animals. But
somehow, I think that its not right to let me "mistreat" animals. If
that's what you really think I'm doing, you should stop me.

When I bring up to him that he's really part of the problem of
"mistreatment" of animals if he is using animal products, he won't
consider that the manure is a product. Out of sight, out of mind.

Also, to go back to the guy in the article, locking all those geese up
in a room and having a kid run in and grab them one by one, may not
have been the most humane way to go about the deed. Tearing mates
apart might not have been good or productive also. It might be that
his parents had a bad management plan as far as the butchering goes.
