Picture Tehachapi and Palm Springs.

My brother had a contract to haul many of those into place in both locations and had a small contract to assemble several of the towers near Tehachapi. It was great guns until Raygun pulled most of the tax credits and many of the companies went out of business leaving small contractors like my brother holding the bag.

Wind power is cheaper than solar though with some of the same disadvantages. An issue of Home Power within the last year had a comparison article on home wind energy systems. They have had several articles on how to site wind towers, a much more critical issue that with panels.

Cheapest by far is not using energy, then is hydro, followed by wind, and then solar.
