Ya know, Don, this is the message I hear alot about *Indian* casinos. I
never hear anyone using the "what about the debt counseling to problem
gamblers" about anything else. Do you want Vegas shut down? Altlantic
City? Race tracks? Church bingos? Or is it just INDIAN casinos?

And what about the drunk drivers? A drunk driver is going to drink an
drive, period! That's the same twisted logic used out in Forestville. They straightened the road and cut down all the old-growth redwoods along side the road because the road was too narrow and the drunk drivers ran into the redwood trees and died. Guess what, the drunk drivers just kept drinking and driving and killing themselves. Only problem is now they run into homes or other people and cause damage to someone or something other than themselves. You improve the roads and it doesn't stop drunk drivers. It's called personal responsibility. Why aren't you complaining and
demanding that all bars and liquor stores be closed?

And is the real problem "They give the city a million here and there but individual members are now approaching $25K a month"?

Why is it that I never hear about all the folks that are no longer on
welfare or all the jobs that are brought into a community. Jobs that pay
quite well, btw. Jobs that usually go to more white folks than red.

And how many of those wells were pumping dry in the summer out there to
begin with. I know some of them were.

I really don't have too much patience with the folks who build their McMansions up on those ridges or down those canyons to begin with. *Most* of those places would burn with or without water. They cost the whole state millions of dollars and the
taxpayers millions of dollars ever few years because of fires and they did
long before the casinos. Access is minimal and a lot of those houses are
long distances between. You have to get a truck with water up those roads,
there aren't fire hydrants, so the individual wells running out of water is
mute point. And, they'll build again in the same place and it will all
happen all over again. It's the same mentality as the folks down in Malibu. AND, as one of the rich McMansion owners said about the hurricanes on the east coast, why should he worry about loosing his beach front house. The feds were going to pay him enough to build one again. That would be John Stossel, btw, after Katrina.

It is not free money. What about the debt counseling to problem
gamblers? What about the death tool on narrow back country roads from
drunken drivers? Valley Center became more deadly than I-5 though
Oceanside. That money going to the tribes and their financiers is not
going into improving the state.

While the casinos "might" be a problem in the area of Southern Cal where
you
lived, the casinos have done a lot for other communities and have made a
point of being good neighbors. Not all communities are unhappy with the
casinos in their area nor are all "civilian" neighbors unhappy with them.

Yes, the one right near where I am now is one of the four. They are not
fixing up the road which has become very dangerous. One intersection is a
real problem but it is off the main route from the freeway so they are not
bothering. They are pumping water as fast as they can while the rest of
the city has to limit pumping. They give the city a million here and
there
but individual members are now approaching $25K a month, more as one group
gains power and throws more off the roles. I am very much against the
casino free money mentality and it will bring nothing but harm.
