Two years ago. Got rid of them all. They were a 2001, 2003 and 2004 year
models.

The floppies were Sony and IBMs, not that I think it would make much
difference because all the blooming things are made in the same place
overseas and just given different labels. Probably a batch run problem with
the Memorex disks.

As to the Compaq's, they used to be a pretty good computer. The city I
worked for had them in all their offices for years and never had any
problems, well, except "stupid people" problems with them. They got heavy
use and not in terribly favorable conditions (warehouse, corp yard, bus
yard, etc.). Wouldn't give you two cents for them now!

We also had HP printers. Of course, back then they had one of their main business offices, etc. up the hill from us. I still have about 4 or 5 HP printers. Some dating back to the 80s and they are all working just fine. A couple have had some REALLY ROUGH handling and it hasn't phased them.

I have a couple of antique computers (an old Packard Bell and an HP
Touchscreen) that will probably outlast all the new plastic built-to-be
obsolete stuff they are pushing out now. We still play with them (have a
lot of geneology stuff on the old Packard Bell) and they are working just
fine.

Wish I could find a computer that wasn't built by the modern day equivalent
of a Cracker Jack toy factory!

Really? We had several Dell's at work also and we had no trouble passing
floppies around between the Dell's and non-Dell's and I certainly don't
remember ever having a floppy "eaten". We did have a problem with Memorex
floppies dropping data and being particular (they would only work in
certain
computers at all). But that was the floppies, not the Dell's. I had a
problem with one Dell once when the bean counters decided that we should
set
the ac higher and it would get into the low-mid 80' in my lab. My Dell,
there would occasionally just re-boot all by itself, but only when it got
oppressively warm in my lab. I currently know several people with Dells
and they love them. When did you have this problem with your Dell's?
What
years were these computers?
