Since moles feed on the grubs that feed on the lawn, and since the
predominant grub is the Japanese beetle larvae, once you reduce the
number of beetles, you reduce the number of larvae and over time, the
moles move on to turf that has more grubs.

"The diet of a mole consists of earthworms, snails, slugs, and insects (both adult and larval stages), but also may include small amounts of vegetation and seeds taken inadvertently."

The quote is from:

Heartwood has more moles than necessary to maintain an ecological presence and avoid extinction. I do not care to eliminate earthworms from my lawns and garden areas. Thus far my mole control efforts have been puny, putting hardware cloth or gravel/stones/broken glass at the bottom of a new raised garden bed. If I could know that our moles feed mostly on insect larvae I would try the Milky Spore method of control.
