Many women of Charleston SC are all dolled up in 99 degree heat with
humidity to match. Lived there for five years and never fit in because I
don't polish my fingernails & toes and even back then wore little makeup
(pencil eye liner, mascara and lipstick). Fast forward to my Floyd years--I
still wear lipstick (a muted shade close to my own lip color) and come by
that honestly from my Grandma (a "beautician"). I buy Aveda or Burt's Bees
brands which are natural (no petroleum) and use recycled containers and/or
cardboard. But that's it. If I have an occasion to go to (my husband's gig
if in a nice place or when we're on a date) I may put on eye pencil liner,
but that and my lipstick is the extent of my getting made up. It was a
progression over the last dozen years. Every year I saw less reason to wear
it. I didn't understand why scores of women look practically unrecognizable
to their S.O. when they wake up in the morning.

In another life (20 years ago?) I was a BeautiControl Image Consultant. If
they could see me now....

I don't use any kind of hair products other than shampoo

Same here. Got my hair cut recently, was all one length and longish and had
been that way for a while. I wanted a change. The style person wanted me
to have mousse (sp?) and gel and spray and I declined it all. From her
expression, even in Floyd that is not the norm.

I would like to sew my own bags and avoid the whole bag thing altogether. I
think I would use old jeans since denim is strong and old jeans are pretty
much in abundant supply around here. Maybe this winter,
I'll search for a pattern for a flat bottom grocery type bag with handles.

Another homestead business is born.
