Hey Gene,
We cut them in the spring, May of 1996, and started de-barking as soon as they were moved to the mill, about July, I think. I remember getting squirted in the face with sap and my hands were covered in it all summer long. By September the bark was easier to remove. My logger Uncles always preferred to cut in the fall, less sap.

Keith, were those pine logs all cut about the same time of the year? Were the easier ones cut later or was the sap just dried out? I'm looking for optimal time of year to cut, to make debarking easiest.
