Esther,

I think a fair number of people will remember to get the grubs the following year, even novice gardeners. For one thing, Japanese beetle damage seems particularly alarming, and for another, the most common predator in my experience is skunks. This seems to be true even in urban areas--my brother's yard in the middle of Toronto was a haven for skunks when he first moved into the property. He has since eliminated enough of the grub population so that the skunks no longer dig up his lawn.
