Also, privet hedges in bloom smell .. not pleasant. an acquired taste.

Where it then becomes available for  absorption by bacteria and fungi. 
So the real question is not what a product's half life is etc, but how
does it impact the microbes that fuel the natural system....

I must say this whole thread has changed my mind.  I used to pine for a
privet hedge....which do not make it up here where I live. Now I feel
better!
