Extention suggested, which was cut it down and spray regrowth with Roundup.
Guess cutting it down accomplished something because it couldn't spew more
seeds, but it kept recovering even though we sprayed it repeatedly."

Many woodies can continue to resprout after the top is removed, this because
they easily regenerate from roots. And in the cut-their-head-off scene,
those roots have built up lots of reserves through the previous years.

Herbicide sprays can be effective on regrowth. But as already noted, the
paint-on method restricts the treatment to the "nasty" plant even while
sparing all others.

Then, when it comes to a question of effectiveness on woodies, triclopyr does
better than glyphosate, the later the active ingredient in Roundup and
various other brandname products.

Even so, paint-on treatments must be repeated with each new growth seen. The
longer one delays, the more opportunity the woody has to rebuild its reserves.
