This is such a wonderful discussion. My question was prompted by an e-mail I got from a reader in Utah, of all places. He wanted to know what to plant to camouflage a fence. He asked for a recommendation for a honeysuckle. Being in Indianapolis, I didn't know what to suggest for Utah.
And Jeff's suggestion about L. tatarica and L. maackii just illustrates how differently plants are perceived in various parts of the country. These two bush honeysuckles, along with L. morrowii, are on the top 10 list of invasive plants in Indiana (www.inpaws.org) and other Midwestern states.

Jo Ellen ( and others),
When you say west, one has to ask, "how far west"" (And I might add, I would do the same if you said east....part of Alaska is actually the most eastern part of the US..end of geography lesson!)
HERE in the West, the Tatarian (Lonicera tatarica) honeysuckle is in full bloom and these bush-types are quite a sight! Hardy to Zone 2. We also plant L. maakii (Amur Honeysuckle).
I am sure the Tartarian would be fantastic in most parts of Utah.
Cheers,
Jeff L
